I say this because I grew up across the road from a boy who joined the police. We were pals since we were at primary school and we grew up in a village where everyone knew each other. He was anything but a thug - and yet, after he joined the police, he was charged with GBH (grievous bodily harm) several times...and got off each time. I found it almost impossible to reconcile the boy (up to the age of 19) with the policeman he became.

I don’t know about America, but in Scotland, police recruits are, very quickly, initiated into a masonic lodge and will be corrupted and protected all the way through the justice system.
