Do a pregnancy test with pickle juice. Depending on the chemistry it might come up positive. It’s not the intended sample and the chemistry is wrong. Doesn’t mean covid testing the way it is done is a good thing, but your pickles will not test positive in a PCR test. More likely, a real positive would be inhibited and cause a false negative because the pickle juice would inhibit the enzymes. But it means nothing. Hook an automotive diagnostic computer for a car up to a tractor (if that is possible) and try to read it. Or, better yet, try to plug it into a wall socket.

There are a lot of different tests for “covid”, for better or worse. They do not all use PCR, and PCR is not a test. It is just a process. There are antigen-based tests that don’t look at nucleic acid, and there are tests that sequence nucleic acid molecules. Some of those involve PCR and some do not. There are multiple ways to achieve similar end points as PCR as well. Things called “isothermal amplification” that do not involve thermal cycling and also have nothing whatsoever to do with Kary Mullis,. For example, nucleic acid sequence based amplification (NASBA), helicase-dependent amplification (HDA), recombinase-polymerase amplification (RPA), loop-mediated amplification (LAMP) and others. All use the same principles, but achieve the end result without the hallmark thermal cycling of PCR. Mullis did not discover the enzymes nor the processes. He simply came up with an artificial mechanism to make a test tube repeat a natural process multiple times outside of a living cell.

That is not a PCR test. That is a lateral flow test. PCR = “polymerase chain reaction” and requires oligonucleotide primers, a DNA polymerase enzyme such as taq polymerase, deoxynucleotide triphosphates (dNTPs), magnesium, and controlled heating and cooling system for rapidly cycling temperatures up and down between around 95, 55, and 72 degrees Celsius (203, 131 and 162 Farenheit). The lateral flow test shown just wicks fluid across a filter and detects the binding of a specific molecule to a spot on the filter. Nothing is amplified. Kary Mullis had nothing to do with lateral flow assays. The test is probably reacting to the pH of pickle juice, which is acidic. Not the right sample for the test.
