Dave says, if this is so, why hasn’t a space shuttle at least once taken a trip around the moon and back? After all, the space shuttle is a much more technically advanced, better equipped and a more radiation insulated ship, than Apollo. The answer is that one never leaves the gravitational attraction of earth on a trip to the moon, and a direct flight to the moon would require tons of fuel. The moon itself is held in earth’s gravitational grasp. A return trip would be more or less a free fall, but one has to get there first. The truth is that no human has ever been further than 400 miles above the earths surface, and most humans only 200 miles.
