The inertia of the push doesnt allow the hands to stop the rest of the body, specifically the head from proceeding in the direction of the push. The oldie may fall down and absorb the shock on his butt with his hands but ultimately the back and the head will keep moving in the direction of the push... downwars to gravity and boom.

Regarding his head being raised slightly, I’ve similar things in AFL football when players have been knocked out. Sometimes they seem to stiffen up, sometimes their hands/arms will be up in the air yet they’re completely KO’d. It must be a natural reaction. Thankfully it’s not something I see often. I’m no expert on knock outs. But I certainly can’t see how it was fake, crossed feet or not. Cheers.
