I was thinking of the Hinckley attempt on Reagan myself which for years belived was real and now have serious doubts about especially because the Hinckley family had close ties to the Bush family, of whom George Bush Sr was Vice President. Not saying a shooting didn’t take place, but to have Hinckley get that close to the President without anyone from the Secret Service question him was criminal and likely a set up. The stage here could as well be a set up for an assassination.

You have to think that there hasn’t been an “assassination" attempt since the young MK Ultra subject John Hinckley Jr. ricocheted a bullet off ‘ol Ronnie in ‘81. This is extremely plausible given that it makes for a outstanding plot in a political thriller, and the consciousness and intelligence of the American public are both at an all time low.
