I agree to inform it's a sad day in August is a sad day in Los Angeles County and the nation for another tragic shooting at a school at 738 this morning at 738 this morning 738 this morning Santa Crete Sheriff's Station received a 911 call of a shooting at Saugas High School. Within seconds we received multiple calls and within two minutes at 740 our first units arrived on scene and encountered in the quad area of the school, in the quad area of the school, multiple victims gunshot wounds. There were total of six victims. There were total of six victims. There were total of six victims who were promptly triaged and transported to the local hospitals for treatment. How many rounds were planned here? Approximately six rounds. From the time that he withdrew the handgun from his backpack to the time that he was on the ground with a gunshot wound to his head was about 16 seconds. How many rounds were planned here? Approximately six rounds. I also just want to point out again 2500 students this campus is huge and there are some students who spoke the tune that didn't hear anything. Students who spoke the tune that didn't hear anything. There are some students who spoke the tune that didn't hear anything. And some students that were basically locked inside their classrooms, some that saw it. So you're dealing with so many different stories, perspectives, and we've been hearing and reporting on those stories all morning and it is just pretty remarkable that everyone has a connection to this and some are just finding out what happened because they have been locked in a classroom. Some are just finding out what happened because they have been locked in a classroom. Some are just finding out what happened because they have been locked in a classroom or still at the school. And so we're doing our best to present the most accurate information to them at one point. Hug their child, make sure they were okay. And we talked with some of those students about the terrifying morning at Saga High School where they described being unlocked out after this shooting, not knowing whether the gunman was still out there and sitting in the dark sometimes, sometimes arming themselves with scissors, barricading the doors with desks, listen now to what some of those students told us. I was in first period Humanities English. I was in first period Humanities English. And I looked out the window and there were waves of kids just running, running past, screaming, and someone runs into our classroom from the corner and it's like there's a gun on campus. Someone runs in screaming and someone runs into our classroom. So we're from the corner and it's like there's a gun on campus of the shooter, someone's dead, and we don't freak out. Everyone ran into the next door. Decor and inside the core was Every class and that cue buildingierung together. People are shaking through our crying I don't know was going on. We just heard guns like we didn't know. I didn't hear the gunshots I didn't know what was going on and we just heard guns like we didn't know I didn't hear the gunshots I didn't know was going on and Then we were in the core for about was going on we just heard guns like we didn't know I didn't hear the gun shots. I didn't know what was going on and then we were in the core for about five minutes and then they called active lockdown and in the back you could hear a woman over the P.A. saying it's not a drill, this is not a drill. All of a sudden my best friend Ellie taps her on the shoulder and she's like hey you need to get down and I was like okay and I get down on the ground and the lights turn off and I'm just sitting there like oh my god this is happening and this isn't the first time it's happened in our school of course it's always been threats but I just figured it was another threat so I understand you guys had a false alarm recently correct yeah like not too long ago so that was kind of running through my head and then all of a sudden a lot of a lot of people got up and started barricading the doors and they took action and I was like oh my god this is real and you can hear it there in the shaking voices of the students excuse me yes are you a student a resident okay so so were you going into school and all this happened yeah I was I was going to school I've been going to work and they were I was going out there with you oh so you you were coming in kind of like I was coming in a little late but in terms of what you witnessed were the students looking coming to your house no I get in I'm in my door here I mean it's either where most people were out by most grouping actions I'm sorry what people were you back to Central Park I'm team I'm just in terms of what you witnessed yourself when you were at the door here did you hear any gun shot it wasn't that if they weren't loudly enough to when you were at the door here did you hear any gunshot myself when you were at the door here did you hear any gunshot it wasn't that if they weren't loudly enough to yeah and then what was the first moment you heard that they were running away from gunfire I opened the door I was like I'm not gonna read it I think wrong it looks a bit working confused but just no I just went back for half or right but I just went there and I went back and went. I didn't want to risk it. I don't want to. Miles and Paul, but I got my hair in the picture. Yeah. Everyone calls you in K. Are you okay? Yes, of course. Of course people can sign. Yeah. This kid came sprinting in and the teacher was kind of asking like what's going on? Like what do you, you can't just run into a class and he just said gunshots. And we all jumped up. He just, this is out of sprinting feet outside the class. We ushered everybody in, locked the doors, hid in the back, lights off, barricaded with desks. And we were all doing a worksheet and awesome is loud bang happened. Loud bang happened. Loud bang happened. And then we were all doing a worksheet and all of a sudden it was loud bang happened. Loud bang happened. Loud bang happened. And then. People are running through the door. Our teacher comes out to the door. He brings all the kids in. They say there's a shooter. Everyone. There's a shooter. Everyone gets in. They say there's a shooter. Everyone gets down. We put up the desk all over in the door and everything. Adam, I can see her. Right. And you actually tell me about what, how did you find out about this shooting? You were on your way to school, right? Yeah, I was on the way to school. Yeah, I was on the way to school. Yeah, I was on the way to school. I was walking just right over. Really close to the school. To the school. And I got in text that people had heard a lot of loud booms. And that they think there was a shooter. I didn't believe it at first. I thought maybe like a generator blew up. But then I saw more cops. And I decided to call my mom and tell her that I was going to come back home. And so I walked back home. And I got lots of text from people. We have a reaction interview with a student who has been in the classroom and those shots were fired this morning. Right after 7.30, let's listen to what she had to say. I was doing my homework when I was running. I was doing my homework when I was doing my homework when I was running. So I started running too. And I was able to hide in the nursing office under the table. And I waited there till the cops came to get me to for me to be safe. Classroom, reading my book. And until a few kids were coming in, they were panicking, they were sick. And until a few kids, classroom reading my book. And until a few kids were coming in, they were panicking, they were saying, there's one kid who was saying, there's a school shooter, there's a school shooter. And we ran to the core. And we were hiding there for the whole time until the police officers came. And I'm feeling there. You can contact with me. Yes, I am. He's been texting. He says, you know, he's been texting. He's been texting. He says, you know, he's on lockdown. He was worried about me coming here because of the shooter. But, you know, I said, I'm just across the street. I'll wait for you. But they're taking them to the central park from what I understand when they evacuate them. So I just want to see him. He got in here, obviously, before. Yeah, so he has first period. And then other kids have, you know, start their dates for second period. So he was already here. What did he tell you of anything? What did he tell her? He didn't tell me what he heard. What did he tell you of anything? What did he tell her? He didn't tell me what he heard or saw. He just. Said that, you know, he'd there on lockdown. Don't come. And. We're just talking now with Michael. You he is a senior here, his mother, who was just. Reunified with here at the park. Michael, talk to us about when you first realized something was wrong this morning. So I was in the band room and I saw a girl running in saying that there was a shooting. And then I didn't hear exactly what she said or I didn't hear any gunshots that I know what she said or I didn't hear any gunshots that I didn't hear any gunshots that I know other people probably did. But after that, then our band director told us to run into we have these other rooms inside of the band rooms. We ran into like there's a music library in this office. Half of us ran into the music library. The other half ran into his office and we stayed there for about like 30 minutes to 40 minutes after the police came in and told us to. Like remain calm and that they were there. And then after we were escorted into the choir room, which is connected to the into the choir room, which into the choir room, which is connected. So you waited until police actually got to you. You guys did not try to venture out. No, we didn't try because yeah, because we're all by like there's about like 40 or 30 of us in that one room. So we didn't try looking out. We just stayed in the room. So what was he texting you as this was all unfolding? He was telling us that he said that he said that he said that one teacher was was pretty badly injured and that he believes that somebody else was shot there in the quad. I'm sure exactly who or what, but he was pretty scared and but he felt secure there with his coach and yeah, he seemed to be OK. So did he see some of this unfold? Did he hear it? How was he getting the information fold? Did he hear it? Did he hear it? How was he getting the information that he was relaying to you? Do you know? Not that I'm aware of. No, he just I was as chaotic. Not that I'm aware of. Not that I'm aware of. No, he just I was as chaotic and he was locked up in the classroom and that's all that that's all that he knows. Take us back to the beginning. This was early in the morning. What do you remember? Did you hear the gunshots? I didn't hear it, but I remember did you hear? Remember did you hear? Did you hear the gunshots? I didn't hear it, but I didn't hear it. I didn't hear it, but I was sitting in our room and then one of my good friends came in and they there are a couple of them. They all looked really panicked and one of them started crying saying that's the gunshots and so my teacher reacted very quickly and we were all ushered into a locked room. The daughter texted me and he said... Hey, I love you mom. I hope I get to see you again. How many rounds for flight and care? Approximately six rounds. How many rounds for flight and care? Approximately six rounds. Approximately six rounds. Approximately six with period he had any interaction with anyone. He was just standing by himself at one point, decided, walked to the center of that quad area, dropped the backpack, withdrew with the firearm and just started firing right from where he was at. Adrian and I were wondering, this is a big campus. With a paramedics, do they seem to be coming out? I don't know if you've noticed from the same building. We're trying to figure out if there are students and victims coming out of different buildings, if the shooter possibly went into the different classrooms or is everybody coming out of the same area. You know, that's a good question. We don't know exactly what happened. Were students running into different classrooms, did a shooter come in and shoot into multiple classrooms? What I can tell you is I heard at least three different classrooms where students were shot. There's say one of the two girls were shot multiple times wounds through and through surgeon, Dr. Boris Borajani. Bullet wounds to the left shoulder, the right flank and the back shoulder, the right flank and the back. Fortunately, she did not have any injuries to any bones, nerves of blood vessels, to any bones, nerves of blood vessels, to any bones, nerves of blood vessels. It did not injure the spine, did not injure any of the intra-optional organs. That was one of the girls who had run in and she often did not realize that she had been shot. It wasn't until I had gathered all the students in my office and everyone was sitting down that she said to me, I think I may have been shot. Bullet wounds to the left shoulder, the right flank and the back shoulder, the right flank and the back. That was one of the girls who had run in and she often did not realize that she had been shot. It wasn't until I had gathered all the students in my office and everyone was sitting down that she said to me, I think I may have been shot. Reality. In this day and age, there is a psychological effect in school and that is, in the 1960s, it was air raid drills because we worried about the atomic bombs from the Soviet Union potentially attacking us. Now we have to probably start doing drills for active shooter and potential mass casualties. That is the reality and that does bring in a profound psychological effect on the parents and students. Because on a day to day basis, you don't know what's going to happen. TeenUal students have this happening too. So what are we missing? What social supports need to be in place to prevent this kind of thing from happening in the first place? This kind of thing from happening in the first place. This kind of thing from happening in the first place. And kind of things from happening in the first place. I should not have to go to school and fear for my life. I go to school so I can get an education so I can become a doctor so I can go and pursue my dreams. I shouldn't fear for my life. I'm not a target. And this is unfortunately Trump's America and it breaks my heart to know that more students have to die before we realize that this is an issue. And we need to take action and I vowed to myself today every day from now on that I'm going to take action and I'm going to stand up for gun control. I'm going to stand up for gun control. I'm going to stand up for gun control. I'm going to stand up for gun control. I'm going to stand up for gun control. I saw that girl. I'm going to stand up for gun control. I'm going to stand up for gun control. How many were hit in all there? We say eight? How many students were hit? Okay. Okay. And there you go. Okay. And Mike can't Michael. He's a little kid. Give me a mic check. I'm not my check. I have B. There's something wrong with this cord. I'm going to change it out. But coming up next right here, the impact of a school shooting students and families left wondering why. Test test. One, two, three, four. Test test. One, two, three, four. I was really scared. I was really scared. I was shaking. I didn't know what students fearing for their lives. I was texting everyone else. I was really scared. I was really scared. I was really scared. I was really scared. I was really scared. I was really scared. I was really scared. I was really scared. I was really scared. I was really scared. I was really scared. I was really scared. I was really scared. One, two, three, ten. He's not a suspected shooter. I mean, he's the shooter. I just took out suspect. I keep taking it out, but it just was like, yeah. That's interesting because somebody specifically asked if deputies had been to that home before and they denied they'd had a history at that house, but Eric saying that deputies were there to seize guns. There may be more to this. I think there's a lot more to this. He shot five. We're going to move forward with the investigation figure out what went wrong. And I hate to have sogus be added to the names of Columbine, Parkland, Sandy Hook, but it's a reality that affects us all throughout the nation. Something we're going to have to deal with. And as Captain Lewis said, we got to figure out what are we doing wrong? And how can we stop this from happening in the future? Anti-gun message. Every day, every school at every level. One thing that I think is clear with young people and with adults as well is that we just have to be repetitive about this. It's not enough to simply have a catchy ad on a Monday and then only do it every Monday. We need to do this every day of the week and just really brainwash people into thinking and just really brainwash people in every day of the week and just really brainwash people into thinking about guns in a vastly different way. I should not have to go to school and fear for my life. I go to school so I can get an education so I can become a doctor so I can go and pursue my dreams. I shouldn't fear for my life. I'm not a target. And this is unfortunately Trump's America. And it breaks my heart to know that more students have to die before we realize that this is an issue. And we need to take action and I vowed to myself today every day from now on that I'm going to take action and I'm going to stand up for gun control. I'm so tired that people talking about your prayers. Damn it. We have to protect these kids. We have to do it now. I still have it processed what's going on yet. I mean, it just doesn't seem real. See, that's interesting because somebody specifically asked if deputies had been to that home before and they denied they'd had a history at that house, but Eric saying the deputies were there to seize guns. There may be more to this. I think there's a lot more to this. Watch it how I move watch it how I move. I'll be keeping track now watch out for the snakes watch out for the snakes. Yeah, watch out for the snakes. Watch out for the snakes. Yeah, watch out for the. I see all the signs. I see all the signs. They've been telling lies. They've been telling lies. Watch it how I move. Watch it how I move. I'll be keeping track now watch out for the snakes watch out for the snakes. Yeah, watch out for the snakes.
