Shaw. And I'm Brian Sterling. Tonight at 11, questionable comments from state senate majority leader Mike Sherkey. Everyone from elected officials to Sherkey himself responding to the video in which he calls the insurrection in DC a hoax. News 8's Jacqueline Francis is in the newsroom with new reactions tonight, Jacqueline. Yes, do and Brian, this video is a conversation between Sherkey and leaders of the Hillsville County and GOP. He's being censored by the county Republicans for not being conservative enough in Lansing. The group that posted the video to YouTube called reclaim our American Republic. Earlier tonight, Sherkey issued a statement apologizing for his remarks, saying quote, I have many flaws being passionate coupled with an occasional lapse in restraint of the tongue or at least two of them. I regret the words I chose and I apologize for my insensitive comments. Meanwhile, other elected officials are giving their take on the video. US representative Debbie Dingell of Michigan tweeting at Sherkey tonight, writing, I was there with my colleagues as we put on gas masks and evacuated the house chamber. They came to kidnap and kill lawmakers. It wasn't a hoax, it was life or death. Sherkey was also heard talking about his battles with Governor Whitmer. I did contemplate once or twice. I did come and buddy moved to a fist right on the Capitol. We spanked her hard on budget. We spanked her hard on the point. This folks person for Whitmer responding with a statement saying in part, it's disappointing that Senator Sherkey is spending his time on political pot shots and indulging conspiracy theories. Governor Whitmer is staying laser focused on keeping people safe and getting Michigan back to work. We've reached out to Sherkey's office requesting an interview, but they did not respond.
