Are you considering instituting a nationwide lockdown, a nationwide quarantine? At this point, not nationwide. We may look at certain areas, certain hot spots as they call them. We'll be looking at that. The nation grinding to a home, schools close, businesses shut down in some places, curfews in place. Kids are not pleased, but that's okay. Sad, because I'm going to miss all my friends. The effects of the COVID-19 outbreak sweeping through all aspects of American life. It creates a lot of hardship for people, but this is the right choice. We're just going to just stay open, because this might be the last resort people have, and that's the reality that we're dealing with right now. Extreme times and extreme measures. The president issuing new national guidelines for the next 15 days. We'd much rather be ahead of the curve than behind it, and that's what we are. Therefore my administration is recommending that all Americans, including the young and healthy, work to engage in schooling from home when possible, avoid gathering in groups of more than 10 people, avoid discretionary travel, and avoid eating a drink in bars, restaurants, and public food courts. In some places, restrictions are more severe. Seven Millican people in San Francisco ordered to shelter in place for the next three weeks. If I thought last Friday's announcement was hard, this one is exponentially harder. Why is this necessary? We want to look back on this and say we overreacted, we did too much. The clock is ticking for us. The clock is ticking for us. I'm not an alarmist when I say this is more of like we're in the middle of a Pearl Harbor attack every day. We are cutting massive amounts of red tape to make antiviral therapies available in record time. These treatments will significantly reduce the impact and reach of the virus. Additionally last week I signed into law an $8.3 billion funding bill to help CDC and other government agencies fight the virus and support vaccines, treatments, and distribution of medical supplies. My administration is coordinating directly with communities with largest outbreaks and we have issued guidance on school closures, social distancing, and reducing large gatherings. Smart action today will prevent the spread of the virus tomorrow. Every community faces different risks and it is critical for you to follow the guidelines of your local officials who are working closely with our federal health experts and they are the best. Our federal health experts and they are the best. Our federal health experts and they are the best. For all Americans it is essential that everyone take extra precautions and practice good hygiene. Each of us has a role to play in defeating this virus. Wash your hands, clean often used surfaces, cover your face and mouth if you sneeze or cough, cover your face and mouth if you sneeze or cough, cover your face and mouth if you sneeze or cough. It is so contagious. It is just so contagious, sort of record setting type contagion or federal health experts and they are the best. New numbers released this evening from the Washington Health Department. 904 people have now tested positive in our state. That includes three people here in Spokane County. Statewide 48 people have died from the virus. And a former bond girl, Olga Kurilanko revealed on Instagram that she too is locked up at home and has been for a week saying fever and fatigue have been her main symptoms. And finally, fellow CBS colleague and reporter Seth Don, who is still in Italy covering the effects of the coronavirus there, has also said he tested positive. Yeah, I started to have a little bit of a cough that worried me. For the most part, I feel okay. For the most part, I feel okay. Most part, I feel okay. We're back now with continuing coverage on the coronavirus. I spent Thursday at home Friday night. I came down with symptoms. I had a fever, chills, a heavy dry cough. Basically, I had all the key symptoms except shortness of breath. So what is it like to have coronavirus? I talked to a West Hartford native who is now under quarantine in Manhattan, recovering from what he and his doctor say is a highly likely case of coronavirus. Hey, Dennis, I'm good. How are you? I know. We definitely did. I am. Upper West Side. Hello. My wife is here with my dog. We're all self isolating. So you know, it was the timing was kind of curious. So my wife is Italian and she's been closely monitoring the situation in Italy. And so she's much more aware of the threat the virus poses and really seeing it firsthand with her friends in Italy. And also she's a PhD in science. So she really understands the science behind this a lot better than the average American. So she was really urging me to be very proactive in protecting ourselves. So I made the decision to close my office on Thursday of last week. So my last day in the office was Wednesday. I spent Thursday at home Friday night. I came down with symptoms. I had a fever, chills, a heavy dry cough. Basically, I had all the key symptoms except shortness of breath, which I'm grateful for because that's the sign that you have a serious respiratory problem. And so I hunted down and Saturday was rough. But I took Tylenol and by Sunday I was feeling better and the fever had dropped. I was coughing much less by Monday. Most of the symptoms were gone. I did not. So I emailed my primary care provider over the weekend to find out what I should do. And they told me I didn't qualify for testing because I didn't either travel to one of the high risk countries or I had not come in direct contact with someone who had tested positive. Then I found out on Monday that the we work that I have an office at, someone there had tested positive and this person worked on my floor. And ironically enough, their last day in the office before they got tested was my last day in the office Wednesday the 11th. So it's more than likely that I was infected by that person. So I called my doctor back and I said, hey, listen, I have come in direct contact with someone who tested positive. So I meet the criteria. I was then told that the standard that shifted and that they were now only testing people who had acute symptoms, meaning they needed hospitalization. And the reason for that and this was really troubling to me was the doctor told me that there is a national shortage in particularly in New York of protective gear for medical workers who are doing the testing. And because of that, they have to strictly limit the number of people they can test. And while I understand that for the safety of the workers, that's a big problem for the country in terms of our ability to know how quickly the virus is spreading. Well, actually not really so much anymore. I launched a ghost writing agency several years ago and that kind of phase out my political work. So that's my full time work right now. It's called Gotham Ghost Riders. So I still do some political commentary here and there, but if you want to identify me, you can say I'm the founder of CEO of Gotham Ghost Riders and Ghost Riding Agency. Today, a doctor at Ortho Carolina has now tested positive. So the entire hip and knee center has been closed at this point in an uptown apartment complex, also on alert after a resident tested positive. You know, so far the number here in Charlotte is 11 in Mecklenburg County, but when you see specific places and situations where people have been found to be positive for the coronavirus, it really puts a new perspective on it. We learned this afternoon that the doctor here at Ortho Carolina's hip and knee center has tested positive for the coronavirus. That doctor is now in quarantine and they have closed this facility. We have to say right off the top that Ortho Carolina tells us that doctor had no known contact with any patients in the time that he would have been infected. We now know from officials at St. Louis University that the patient is a student here, someone who had been traveling abroad to one of those so-called source countries. But today at about an hour after they received that positive diagnosis at 515, Mayor Laita Crucine, she gave us some additional information saying that the patient in his or her 20s flew overseas to another state and then was driving into St. Louis when he or she started showing symptoms. So in Kentucky, novel coronavirus patient checked himself out of the hospital against medical advice. So to prevent him from spreading the virus, officials are literally surrounding his house to keep him there. So this is the kind of stuff that I think is going to alarm some Americans because it sounds like big government and they're getting too involved in your day to day life and they're forcing you to stay home. But it's probably for the best because spreading the virus would be a disaster not only for the individuals who have contracted it but if we overwhelm the healthcare system, then a lot of people are going to die.
