Alright, all new at five. This is what greeted worshipers this morning at the cathedral Basilica of the immaculate conception messages of hate Were painted all over the walls and doors of the church off Logan and Kulfax and downtown the clergy tells us it's the worst act Act of vandalism but far from the only never since Patrick Res joins us live now Patrick sadly this has happened over and over Yeah, at least three times since July according to a priest who works here I want to show you the good work those crews did today to get rid of some of those messages of hate unfortunately though You can still see some of that red paint to the entrance of this church there the archdiocese says this is just adding to now a growing list of cases of vandalism across the Metro Cleanup was underway Sunday outside the cathedral Basilica of the immaculate conception in downtown I would say this is the worst because of the vitriol the anger that's up on the walls father Samuel Morehead says someone vandalized a Catholic church sometime before the beginning of its 830 mass the messages written in red spray paint Included the term child rapist a homophobic slur and references to Satan but it's attacking The Catholic Church for being Catholic in ways that are so stereotypical but also so debasing since he started working here in July Father morehead says the church has been vandalized at least three times this time a witness saw it happened Which may help Denver police find out who did it? I think sadly whoever did it either has mental health issues or some deep personal grudges against God or the church The message has certainly got the attention of people driving or walking by call facts and Logan It's just so devastating Melissa Slemer from Colorado Springs likes visiting cathedrals to admire their beauty I love the art and the stained glass and just going and enjoying them But that's hard to do she says when it looks like this It's sad to see people have our filled with so much hate and Destruction and there and themselves that they have to show it like this since February of last year There are diocese of Denver says it's been aware of at least 25 locations that have been the target of vandalism destruction or theft More than ten of those incidents have happened in the past six months in a statement the archdiocese says in parts It is certainly unfortunate when our parishes are targeted simply because of our beliefs We continue to pray for the conversion of those who carry out acts of desecration against our churches statues and religious symbols Father morehead is not letting this get in the way of their worship There's mercy I pray for this person. I wish them the best So the priest there is obviously aware of the headlines that the Catholic Church has made in recent years He would love to have a one-on-one conversation with anyone who has concerns about those headlines But he says what the people who did this did today? Well, that's just not the answer If you haven't to have any information about the person responsible for this vandalism gift them a police account for now We're live in Denver and Patrick Perez
