Train Crash Before Biden Visit

The Philippine situation really messing this traffic on a major highway. A train derailed crossing i-25 north of Pueblo with train cars collapsing onto the highway. Don't be cold onto the road. The Colorado State Patrol says the driver of a semi truck died, trapped under what's left of the train cars and the bridge. So the derailment took place at about 3.30 this afternoon. Again, right over i-25, two miles south of Persell Boulevard, just to the north of Pueblo. Cruise from law enforcement agencies across the state are now trying to clean up that mess. And i-news reporter Lauren Skafiti is there. She joins us now. Lauren, we still don't know what caused this derailment. No, we don't yet, Tom. But we did just here from state police and they say that they were able to get to that semi that was trapped under the bridge that had collapsed. They say the driver of that semi was dead. But they said that there weren't any other cars in that area. But tonight i-20 is still shut down. Seven hours after that train derailed. The train was carrying coal. It derailed at mile marker 107. Now we're at mile marker 104 right now. This is as close as we can get. But take a look at some of these pictures and video. You can see that the train cars just piled onto one another. The train derailed as it was crossing i-25 north of Pueblo. The train cars collapsed in the middle of the road. And the train was still trapped under the bridge. The train cars collapsed into the highway. And all that black stuff on the bottom of your screen. Well that's cold. That's spilled out. The collapse trapped a semi truck, like I said. But again, state police say that that driver has died. The NSF owns the train. They tell us none of the operators were hurt. Secretary of transportation Pete Buttigieg says he's in touch with Governor Polis about the crash. Traffic has been detoured on to highway 50 and highway 115 tonight. But if you're going to get a ride on the road, you can get a ride on the road and you can get a ride on the road. So this is a really good way to get a ride on the road. The NSF will be on scene here tomorrow to figure out what caused this crash. But state police say that the highway, i-25, is likely not going to be open tonight in either direction. But I will be live here in the morning to give you any updates and show you any progress that's been made. If any budking, Tom, this timing about clean energy after a train carrying coal just derailed. Yeah, certainly a confluence of many different thoughts there, but first and foremost, trying to get I-25 back open and thoughts also to that driver. Very unfortunate to be passing under at that time. It's frightening.
