But everything that Israel does in the occupied territories, US taxpayers are paying for. The US gives the financing, it gives the military support. Israel receives as much foreign economic assistance as all the countries combined in the world. Combined in the world. In March 2003, the US government approved $10 billion in aid for Israel. At the same time, it would hold a $3.5 billion grant to upgrade the training of first responders. Those who would be the first to respond to a terrorist attack. Spent domestically that $10 billion could buy healthcare coverage for over 4 million children without proper coverage. Or pay for over 1.5 million American children to attend Head Start Child Development programs to prepare them for school. In fact, according to the ADL, Heinz's costs were so small we can't even calculate it. Contrary to the ADL's assertion, on March 20, 2003, the Canadian Jewish News reported that Heinz in Canada was getting rid of its kosher certification on some, but not all, products due to the reported extra cost associated with kosher certification. This was done to keep costs down. A spokesperson for Heinz said that the decision was based on both savings and how complex the manufacturing process is. Despite this cost to non-Jewish consumers, I argue, seldom, if ever, the Jews disclosed the real meaning of these symbols to buyers. Why is this if there is nothing to hide? Today it seems that these kosher taxes tend to affect all consumer items. One honest Jewish publication of the past has aptly labeled this massive unfair rabbinical kosher excise tax as the kosher racket.
