David, you are a well-spoken young man. Where were you yesterday when the shooting started? So yesterday I was in my AP Environmental Science class. We had just taken out all of our notes, and we were about to pack up to leave for our... we were about to leave school and hear a pop. And it happened to be a gunshot that echoed through the hallway. And because of that, my teacher actually went and closed the door, but as soon as she closed the door, the fire alarm was pulled. So this sick man could come and get more soft targets. That it fuckers that want to keep killing our children. They could have blooded from children spattered all over their faces, and they wouldn't take action. Because they all still see those dollar signs. Wow. David, without saying the name of this gunman, because he certainly doesn't need more attention. Young heroes like you do. Did you notice young man? I did not know this young man. Although I did know people I knew him. David, thank you for being with us. Obviously, we're thinking about you and everybody in your class. David, sister lost several friends. I have a little sister. How are you and your sister doing? We're doing this guys, and we could be at this point. We just had to continue fighting to save every other child in America, because these politicians won't. And these law bists aren't going to stop buying them. You know, it's so interesting that people called you a crisis actor early on, and there is all this shock and outrage in the media. How? Silly, not thinking critically. We walked outside, and that's when he started taking Don even more people because of the fire I'm going off. And luckily, when we were actually going out to our fire evacuation zone, and as we were headed out there, a flood of people started running in the opposite direction, saying go this way, go this way. So I followed the herd, and as we were running like in this one direction, we happened to be riding towards the shooter. But thank God there was a janitor there that told us not to go any further, because the gunman was right there. I think that I just keep going. It creates a positive feedback loop in some ways, where the more stress and work that I put on me and the more work and stress that I can deal with. So please welcome two students at Marjorie Stonem Douglas High in Parkland, Florida, who co-founded the advocacy group on gun control. Never again, MSD David Hogg and Cameron Kasky. I think what really strikes me is that you guys are obviously doing a lot of work, and they're really good at job of doing it. But at the same time, I'm always in a back of my mind. You guys are kids, and there are adults that should be doing. Do you guys ever think why the fuck are we the ones who are doing this? At this point, it's like when you're an old-ass parent, I don't know how to send an i-message, and it's just like giving me the fucking phone, and you take him, you're like, okay, let me handle it, and you get it done in one second. Sadly, that's what we had to do with our government, because our parents don't know how to use a fucking democracy, so we have to. Based off what I've heard from them, I've heard that he was a loner, a bit of a socially awkward person, and a person that, um, sadly, we created this archetype in society, where we have the stereotypical school shooter, and that's kind of what this man seemed to be, except the only difference is this time he wasn't taken out, and Jill, that he actually survived and didn't kill himself. It's an awful reality that there are so many school shootings, but when you go to school on a daily basis, do you feel safe when you went to school yesterday? Did you think there's something like this could possibly have happened in your school? I think this could have possibly happened in any school, and that's the sad reality of the situation that this country's coming to. The fact that we've had 18 this year, and it's only February is absolutely unacceptable, and the fact that I'm not even that surprised that it happened at a school, I'm surprised it happened in mine, but the fact that it happened at another school is not surprising at all to me, and that's absolutely terrifying, and it's something that we have to change. David, as terrifying and awful, awful as this is, there's a small silver lining, that tomorrow, the young leaders of tomorrow, are extraordinary people like you. I'm so sorry that you had to experience this, and I feel one shred of optimism knowing that in the future, our country is going to be led by young men like you. David Hall, thank you so much for joining us this morning. Out there, the other, and I just said here, thinking after what you've been through, after what your sisters have been through, that's the sort of thing you probably just brush off, at this point it's just good advertising. I mean, it's bad press on their part, but we still get attention in the media, they're doing a great job of it. I'm quadruple, my Twitter following. Yeah, none of it's true. So, what is the goal for not only you and other people that went through this hell in their schools, and how sustainable is it? Is this something that's going to be with us now, but sort of fade away? No, this is going to continue. This will be a generation long thing, and this is just getting started. Millennials are some of the most politically active, and some of the most critical individuals I've ever met, and people that I've grown up around as I am one, and as such, I think that's really what's going to sustain this process, realizing what's wrong with America and trying to fix it because the previous generation won't. Mike. David, you and your sister, both students at the school, the school is slated to reopen at some point this week, to zero Wednesday, I guess. You can wash the blood from the floors, you can patch up the holes in the doors. You can't wash away those memories. That's the issue. How do you deal with it? Do you know yet? I don't. I really don't. I don't personally, I don't want to go back to school until our legislators at least in Florida passed one bill. Just one bill, where either they raised the gun law, the age that you can buy any gun in the state, to 21, or they have a universal background check system in Florida. Literally anything because at this point, why should I have to work if my elected officials won't work to save my life and everybody around me? And I want to point something out to you. All the glass that's being replaced in our school isn't being replaced with bulletproof glass. It's being replaced with the old glass that's a shooter shot through. None of the locks are being replaced with locks that can be locked from the inside. And I know that's going to cost a lot of money, but if every school does it because of economies of scale, the price will go down. We just have to start that. David, condolences on your... The losses that your family and friends have suffered here. I want to ask you, so right now you are up against an organization that spends a half a billion dollars a year with an engender that says that we should have more guns in the hands of more people to be more safe. And so what's your message to that message? And to that idea that the way to be more safe is to have more weapons in the hands of more people? Well, I think to those people, I would say that it's good to have your second amendment rights. It's good to believe that you can protect yourself and protect those around you. But I want people to acknowledge the fact that we do have a major gun violence problem in this country when that's not going to weigh it, it hasn't gone away, it won't go away. And so we have major reform enacted. And by reform, I don't mean to wait taking away people's guns. People are always going to have their guns, and they're always going to have this second amendment. David, because that's the argument that these kids are running the right now and people that support them want to cut the skate guns, want to kick down the doors and take them. It's like this. Is that what you're talking about? In the same way that there's limitations on the first amendment, where you can't yell fire in the crowded theater, you shouldn't be able to get an AR-15 or any weapon that can chill a number of people. If you're a mentally unstable individual, if you're a person with a criminal background or somebody with a history of domestic violence, I don't get what's so hard for these legislators to understand this is sensible gun control that both sides can support, but they sadly can because they're bought by the NRA. Jim Van Deha, your activism has been very admirable. How much are you hearing from people outside of Florida from other kids who want to get involved? And when you talk about it becoming a generational thing, how do you organize something like that? Is it underway? Are you in contact with people who can't put that together? What it has to be is a grassroots movement. That's what we've created here. We have had some support from celebrities, but mainly it's a grassroots movement by getting funding from everybody around here. Last night I was in Livingston, New Jersey, at a campaign rally because essentially that's what this is become. Sadly, it shouldn't have to be. But I was there giving a speech, explaining my situation, our agenda, and everything like that. And I was meeting amazing individuals and shaking hands with them. And it was every single person that I met with there. I knew that's how change was coming because of them. That he was pure evil that I had to keep my kids away from him. Evil visits it does here today. And we don't know why. We don't understand it. And I guess we never will. I'm not going to be able to. Evil visited this community today. So as soon as you hear something like this is happening, the first thing you start thinking about the families, you know, you think about your own family as a grandparent, and a parent, the first thing you think about is, you know, you know, God, I hope this ever happens to my family. Then you always see, think about your fears. How could this ever happen in this country? How could this happen in this state? This is a state that is focused on keeping all of our children safe. You come to the conclusion, this is just absolutely pure evil. Pure evil. So, a tragedy of unspeakable terms played itself out in this community. Lieutenant Governor and I have been spoken to and an attempt that we might be prepared for something like this playing itself out in our state. You can never be prepared for this kind of incident. What has happened, what has transpired at that school building, we'll leave a mark on this community and every family impacted. I only ask that all of our fellow citizens here in the United States and around the world who have already offered their assistance. Remember all of the victims in their prayers. tougher, pure evil
