February 29, 2000, Flint, Michigan – Killing of Kayla Rolland: At Buell Elementary School, a 6-year-old boy fatally shot 6-year-old girl classmate Kayla Rolland. To date, the boy is the youngest documented fatal school shooter.

May 26, 2000, Lake Worth, Florida – 13-year-old honor student Nathaniel Brazill was sent home for throwing water balloons but returned to his Lake Worth Middle School with a family pistol. He fatally shot teacher Barry Grunow, who was popular at the school.

August 28, 2000, Fayetteville, Arkansas – 36-year-old James Easton Kelly, a PhD candidate at the University of Arkansas, killed 67-year-old John R. Locke, his English professor. Kelly shot Locke three times before committing suicide.

September 26, 2000, New Orleans, Louisiana – 13-year-olds Darrel Johnson and Alfred Anderson were charged with attempted first-degree murder after a shooting. Pennington, after being shot, gained control of the gun and shot Johnson in the back. Charges were later reduced to aggravated battery.

December 1, 2000, San Diego, California – A 15-year-old Junipero Serra High School student accidentally shot himself while showing off a handgun on campus.

January 3, 2001, San Francisco, California – At Balboa High School, a 15-year-old student was shot in the hip when another student accidentally discharged a gun in the classroom.

February 2, 2001, Detroit, Michigan – At Osborn High School, two students and a teacher were grazed by gunfire after a student fired a gun in their classroom.

March 5, 2001, Santee, California – Santana High School shooting: 15-year-old student Charles Andrew Williams killed two students and wounded thirteen others. Williams was sentenced to life with parole possible after 50 years.

March 7, 2001, Williamsport, Pennsylvania – 14-year-old Elizabeth Catherine Bush wounded fellow student Kimberly Marchese at Bishop Neumann High School.

March 22, 2001, El Cajon, California – 18-year-old former student Jason Hoffman opened fire at Granite Hills High School, injuring five people before being shot by police.

March 30, 2001, Gary, Indiana – 17-year-old Donald Ray Burt Jr. fatally shot Neal Boyd IV outside Lew Wallace High School. Burt was sentenced to 57 years in prison.

May 16, 2001, Parkland, Washington – 40-year-old music instructor James D. Holloway was shot and killed by a 55-year-old man at Pacific Lutheran University. The shooter then killed himself.

January 15, 2002, New York City, New York – 17-year-old Vincent Rodriguez wounded two students at Martin Luther King, Jr. High School. He was sentenced to ten years in prison.

January 16, 2002, Grundy, Virginia – Appalachian School of Law shooting: 42-year-old Peter Odighizuwa killed three people and wounded three others. He received three life sentences and an additional 28 years.

February 20, 2002, Milwaukee, Wisconsin – 16-year-old Joseph Johnson Jr. was killed by 22-year-old Phillip D. Jackson Jr. after a basketball game.

October 7, 2002, Bowie, Maryland – In the Beltway sniper attacks, 13-year-old Iran Brown was wounded outside Benjamin Tasker Middle School. Shooters Lee Boyd Malvo and John Allen Muhammad were later convicted.

October 28, 2002, Tucson, Arizona – 40-year-old Robert Stewart Flores Jr. killed three assistant professors at the University of Arizona before killing himself.

October 29, 2002, Jersey City, New Jersey – A 15-year-old student was shot in the abdomen during an argument in the basement of Lincoln High School. Another 15-year-old was charged with attempted murder.

April 2, 2003, Washington, D.C. – A 10th-grader was shot in the leg near Cardozo High School, leading to a lockdown of six schools.

April 14, 2003, New Orleans, Louisiana – John McDonogh High School shooting: Steven Williams and James Tate opened fire with an AK-47 and a handgun, killing a student and wounding three others.

April 24, 2003, Red Lion, Pennsylvania – 14-year-old James Sheets entered Red Lion Area Junior High School, killed the principal, Eugene Segro, and then himself.

May 9, 2003, Cleveland, Ohio – 2003 Case Western Reserve University shooting: Biswanath Halder killed a student and wounded two others before being apprehended. He was sentenced to life in prison.

September 24, 2003, Cold Spring, Minnesota – 2003 Rocori High School shooting: 15-year-old John Jason McLaughlin shot and killed two students. McLaughlin was sentenced to life in prison with parole possible in 2038.

2004
February 2, 2004, Washington, D.C. – Thomas J. Boykin was acquitted of the murder of 17-year-old James Richardson at Ballou High School. An 18-year-old student was also grazed by a bullet. Boykin later pled guilty to manslaughter.

February 9, 2004, East Greenbush, New York – 16-year-old Jon W. Romano fired two rounds from a shotgun at Columbia High School, wounding a teacher before being tackled by the assistant principal. Romano was released in 2020, injured in a sword attack in 2022, and later gained a following on TikTok.

May 7, 2004, Randallstown, Maryland – Two students were charged with a shooting that injured four after a basketball game at Randallstown High School. One student was paralyzed.

2005
February 8, 2005, Chicago, Illinois – An 18-year-old student at Bowen High School was shot in the leg as she left the school.

March 2, 2005, Dover, Tennessee – 14-year-old Jason Clinard killed his bus driver, Joyce Gregory. Clinard was sentenced to life, appealed, and was released in October 2023 due to poor legal representation.

March 21, 2005, Red Lake, Minnesota – Red Lake shootings: 16-year-old Jeff Weise killed 10, including five students, one teacher, and one security guard at Red Lake Senior High School before committing suicide.

July 18, 2005, Newark, New Jersey – Special Officer Dwayne Reeves was shot and killed outside Weequahic High School. The gunman was convicted and sentenced to 30 years in prison.

August 2005, Saginaw, Michigan – At Arthur Hill High School, a drive-by shooter fired three shots from a shotgun in the school parking lot.

September 13, 2005, Chicago, Illinois – A fight at Harlan Community Academy led to a student being shot in the leg. The shooter was arrested and charged as an adult.

September 24, 2005, Saginaw, Michigan – Two students were shot at during a drive-by after a homecoming dance at Saginaw High School.

October 11, 2005, Farmington, Michigan – A 17-year-old male brought a disassembled shotgun to Farmington High School, assembled it in the bathroom, and fired at the ceiling. No injuries.

October 19, 2005, Saginaw, Michigan – A 15-year-old male was shot in the chest inside Saginaw High School.

November 8, 2005, Jacksboro, Tennessee – 2005 Campbell County High School shooting: 15-year-old Kenneth Bartley shot three administrators, killing one. Bartley was sentenced to 45 years.

December 6, 2005, Detroit, Michigan – An 18-year-old former student was shot and injured at Central High School.

2006
February 9, 2006, Tampa, Florida – Three teenagers shot and killed a former University of South Florida employee as he left a residence hall.

February 23, 2006, Roseburg, Oregon – 14-year-old Vincent Wayne Leodoro shot 16-year-old Joseph Monti at Roseburg High School. Leodoro was sentenced to be held until 25.

March 14, 2006, Reno, Nevada – 2006 Pine Middle School shooting: 14-year-old James Scott Newman shot two classmates. He was sentenced to house arrest and community service.

June 15, 2006, Detroit, Michigan – A 16-year-old was shot in the back outside Pershing High School by four men.

August 24, 2006, Essex Junction, Vermont – Christopher Williams killed two and wounded three at Essex Elementary School before attempting suicide.

August 30, 2006, Hillsborough, North Carolina – After killing his father, 18-year-old Alvaro Castillo shot and wounded two students at his former high school. He was sentenced to life without parole.

September 2, 2006, Shepherdstown, West Virginia – Douglas W. Pennington killed himself and his two sons at Shepherd University.

September 17, 2006, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Five Duquesne University basketball players were shot in an act of random violence.

September 22, 2006, Washington, D.C. – Eugene Huff shot a classmate at Cardozo High School after an argument.

September 27, 2006, Bailey, Colorado – Platte Canyon High School hostage crisis: Duane Roger Morrison took six girls hostage, killing one before killing himself.

September 29, 2006, Cazenovia, Wisconsin – 2006 Weston High School shooting: Eric Hainstock shot and killed the school principal.

October 2, 2006, Nickel Mines, Pennsylvania – West Nickel Mines School shooting: Charles Carl Roberts IV killed five Amish girls and wounded five more before killing himself.

October 9, 2006, Joplin, Missouri – Thomas White fired one shot from a rifle at Memorial Middle School; no injuries.

January 3, 2007, Tacoma, Washington – Douglas S. Chanthabouly killed 17-year-old Samnang Kok at Henry Foss High School. He was sentenced to 23 years.

January 4, 2007, Detroit, Michigan – A 14-year-old girl was shot in the leg near Northwestern High School.

March 6, 2007, Midland, Michigan – 17-year-old David Benjamin Turner shot Jessica Forsyth at H.H. Dow High School before committing suicide.

March 7, 2007, Compton, California – A student was shot in the elbow during an argument at Centennial High School.

April 16, 2007, Blacksburg, Virginia – Virginia Tech shooting: Seung-Hui Cho killed 32 students and staff and wounded 23 others before committing suicide.

May 10, 2007, Detroit, Michigan – Two 17-year-olds were shot outside Henry Ford High School.

August 4, 2007, Newark, New Jersey – A shooting left three dead and one injured.

September 21, 2007, Dover, Delaware – Two freshmen were shot at Delaware State University, with one dying later. Charges were dismissed in 2009.

October 10, 2007, Cleveland, Ohio – 14-year-old Asa H. Coon shot four people at SuccessTech Academy before killing himself.

November 7, 2007, Miami Gardens, Florida – A teacher was shot during a robbery at Miami Carol City Senior High School.

January 23, 2008, Jonesboro, Arkansas – 20-year-old Alfred Louis was grazed in the leg at Arkansas State University.

February 4, 2008, Memphis, Tennessee – A student shot another over an argument about rap music at Hamilton High School.

February 8, 2008, Baton Rouge, Louisiana – Latina Williams killed two classmates before killing herself at Louisiana Technical College.

February 11, 2008, Miami Gardens, Florida – A teacher was shot outside Miami Carol City Senior High School during a robbery.

February 11, 2008, Memphis, Tennessee – A senior was shot by a sophomore at Mitchell High School during gym class.

February 12, 2008, Oxnard, California – Brandon McInerney shot Larry King at E.O. Green Junior High School. McInerney was sentenced to 21 years.

February 14, 2008, DeKalb, Illinois – Northern Illinois University shooting: Steven Kazmierczak killed five and injured 21 before committing suicide.

2009
January 9, 2009, Chicago, Illinois – After a basketball game at Dunbar High School, shots were fired from a truck, wounding five people. Police believe the attack was gang-related. Georgio Dukes was arrested and charged with five counts of felony aggravated battery.

January 20, 2009, Mount Morris Township, Michigan – Four people, aged 16 to 20, were shot and injured in the parking lot of Beecher High School after a basketball game.

February 17, 2009, Detroit, Michigan – At Central High School, a 17-year-old shot a 19-year-old, who then shot an 18-year-old after a fight.

April 26, 2009, Hampton, Virginia – Former student Odane Greg Maye shot a pizza delivery man and a dorm monitor before attempting suicide at Hampton University. He survived and was sentenced to 14 years.

May 18, 2009, Cambridge, Massachusetts – Jabrai Copney and two others attempted to rob Justin Cosby of marijuana at a Harvard dormitory, resulting in Cosby's death. Copney was sentenced to life without parole.

May 18, 2009, Larose, Louisiana – 15-year-old Justin Doucet shot himself after attempting to shoot a teacher at Larose-Cut Off Middle School. He died a week later.

June 16, 2009, San Francisco, California – A man opened fire as students were leaving International Studies Academy, wounding three. An 18-year-old man was arrested as an accessory.

June 24, 2009, Parkersburg, Iowa – Coach Edward Thomas was shot and killed in the weight room at Aplington–Parkersburg High School by a former player.

September 3, 2009, San Bruno, California – A 20-year-old student was wounded in the parking lot of Skyline College. Three men were arrested and charged with firearm offenses.

October 16, 2009, San Bruno, California – At Carolina Forest High School, a student lunged at a school resource officer with a knife and was fatally shot by the officer.

2010
February 5, 2010, Madison, Alabama – 14-year-old Hammad Memon shot and killed 14-year-old Todd Brown at Discovery Middle School. Memon was sentenced to 30 years.

February 10, 2010, Knoxville, Tennessee – A teacher shot the principal and assistant principal at Inskip Elementary School, paralyzing the principal.

February 12, 2010, Huntsville, Alabama – Amy Bishop, a professor, killed three and wounded three during a biology department meeting at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

February 19, 2010, DeKalb, Illinois – Brian Mulder was shot in the leg at Northern Illinois University by Zachary Isaacman after refusing him entry to a dormitory.

February 23, 2010, Littleton, Colorado – 32-year-old Bruco Eastwood opened fire at Deer Creek Middle School, wounding two students.

February 26, 2010, Tacoma, Washington – A teacher was shot and killed by a stalker at Birney Elementary School, who was then killed by police.

May 11, 2010, Bladenboro, North Carolina – A student was shot at West Bladen High School after a fight.

September 8, 2010, Detroit, Michigan – Two students were wounded in front of Mumford High School by Steven Jamal Hare.

September 28, 2010, Austin, Texas – 19-year-old Colton Tooley opened fire at the University of Texas before killing himself.

October 1, 2010, Salinas, California – 15-year-old Jose Daniel Cisneros was shot and killed on the athletic field of Alisal High School.

October 8, 2010, Carlsbad, California – Brendan O'Rourke opened fire at Kelly Elementary School, injuring two girls before being subdued.

October 23, 2010, Topeka, Kansas – Two victims were shot after a drug deal turned violent near Topeka West High School.

November 29, 2010, Marinette, Wisconsin – 15-year-old Samuel Hengel held 23 students and a teacher hostage before shooting himself.

December 6, 2010, Aurora, Colorado – A gang-related shooting outside Aurora Central High School paralyzed a 17-year-old girl.

January 5, 2011, Omaha, Nebraska – 17-year-old Robert Butler Jr. killed an assistant principal and wounded the principal at Millard South High School before committing suicide.

March 25, 2011, Martinsville, Indiana – 15-year-old Michael Phelps shot Chance Jackson at Martinsville West Middle School. Jackson survived after three surgeries.

March 31, 2011, Houston, Texas – Multiple gunmen opened fire at a powder puff football game at Worthing High School, killing one and wounding five.

April 19, 2011, Houston, Texas – A 6-year-old boy accidentally shot himself and two other children at Ross Elementary.

May 10, 2011, San Jose, California – A man killed two San Jose State University students in a campus garage before killing himself.

May 23, 2011, Pearl City, Hawaii – A 14-year-old student shot another at Highlands Intermediate School.

August 19, 2011, Albany, Georgia – An Albany State University student was shot on campus.

September 28, 2011, Jurupa Valley, California – 64-year-old Donaciano Aguirre shot his wife in the parking lot of Patriot High School before committing suicide.

October 24, 2011, Fayetteville, North Carolina – 15-year-old Catilyn Abercrombie was shot in the neck at Cape Fear High School. The shooter was sentenced to 15 years.
